Male Plastic Surgery Procedures

Below are some of the more common male cosmetic surgery procedures and basic definitions.

Lipoplasty- is generally implemented to shape the male contour and remove fatty deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.  Keep in mind, liposuction and/or lipoplasty is not intended to supplant a healthy diet and exercise, but rather, can be used as an adjuvant in the motivated patient to achieve his or her optimal physique.  The positive effects will only last, if the patient continues taking care of his/her body. Indeed, patients can “out eat” liposuction, although accomplishing that is an impressive feat.

Rhinoplasty- is simply a fancy term for a nose job. Although many people opt for this procedure for cosmetic purposes, this type of male aesthetic surgery is often preformed to correct sleep apnea or other serious health problems that adversely affect the ability to breathe properly.

Blepharoplasty- is eyelid surgery. As people get older, it’s not uncommon to experience droopy eyelids. Fatty deposits contribute to the effects of poor skin elasticity. Thus, blepharoplasty can literally take years off of a patient’s physical appearance.

Gynecomastia- is the development of excessive breast tissue in males and is secondary to a hormonal imbalance. Click here for further details on this subject.

Hair Transplant-is a procedure to implant hair from one part of the body to the head, in order to correct balding.

Injectable Fillers – Are the mainstay of non-surgical rejuvenation procedures. Products commonly used in this category include Juvederm Ultra, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, and Sculptra. These products can be used for a multitude of non-surgical rejuvenation procedures including augmentation of cheek bones, management of tear trough deformities, management of HIV-associated lipodystrophy, management of prominent nasolabial folds, non-surgical nose jobs, and more.

Chemodenervation Agents – Common products in this category include Botox Cosmetic and Dysport.  These agents act to cause temporary paralysis in specific muscle groups which have associated overlying areas of wrinkles. The products work best on dynamic wrinkles and in patients with good skin quality.
